April 2014 Newsletter

A Note from Mr. M

This has been a very busy month for us. It started off with two tournaments (March 2): IMA Goshin-Ryu’s New York International Open Championship, where I served as Chief Referee, and the Arizona Championship in Phoenix, where Shihan Madani served as Chief Referee and presented a referee course with certification.

The following weekend (March 8) we had one of the largest Honbu dojo kyu testing since 2005.

Scorekeeping Seminar, Saturday April 12th from 12:30 to 2:30

scoreboardWould you like to have a better understanding of how to read the flags and hand signals from the judges and referees at tournaments?

Thinking about volunteering as a scorekeeper during our Rocky Mountain Championship in May, but would feel more comfortable with some training first?

Our scorekeeping seminar will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 12:30 to 2:30 PM at the dojo and everyone is invited to attend!

Even if you have attended one or several before, please come and be part of it. You can help answer questions, share your experiences, and give tips and advice while brushing up on your scorekeeping skills.

Ultimately, having this knowledge will benefit your kids, as you will be able to use your understanding to help guide their preparation for competition. Most importantly though, scorekeeping is a great way to get to know fellow parents, judges, referees and students, and to help out. It is truly a bonding experience and a team effort.

Please add your name to the sign-up sheet at the dojo reception desk and join us!

March 2014 Newsletter

Please join me in congratulating David Muhammad from IMA Integrity Martial Arts Academy in Missouri, and Maya Wasowicz and Manny Tavares from IMA Goshin-ryu in New York, who made it to the US National team and qualified for the North American Cup in Canada and the Senior Pan American Championship in Venezuela.

These three individuals were training very hard to make the US team for several months. I was very proud to see them competing in team trials in Chicago on February 9th. Double congratulations go out to Maya for qualifying in two divisions (+68 kg and Open).

In addition, Kamran Madani has been invited to compete in the 16-17, -76 kg division at the North American Cup, after qualifying at the US Nationals competition in July. Good luck to David, Maya, Manny and Kamran!

Also, I would like to congratulate and thank Sensei Ruiz for his outstanding training methods, and for coaching our athletes during team trials in Chicago, even after his recent knee surgery.
